All That Glitters (2020)

‘All That Glitters’ is a series of earthernware ceramic sneakers. The series considers themes of consumerism, image and status through the evolution of the modern day sneaker. The work explores the concept of mass production using a technique known as slip casting, where a plaster mould of an object is produced, thus allowing for subsequent identical copies. By considering the history and context behind this iconic item, and its strong ties to celebrity culture and branding, notions of image, value and worth are examined.
