CHRONICLES
Chronicles (2020)
Found objects – rubbish, hair clip, bone, chipped ceramic pieces,
broken glass, shells, bark. Leaves, gum nuts, sticks, beads,
broken parts of children’s toys, polystyrene foam, stones.
Chronicles explores themes of acquirement, accumulation, arrangement, and place. Taken during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, this collection features an assemblage of found objects from the artist’s local neighbourhood. The act of assembling the items is a consideration into the personal histories behind each object. This shows how seemingly worthless or mundane items can have significant meanings or memories attached, and reveal a previous use or story. By compiling the objects into a composition, relationships between form, colour, and material properties are examined, whilst new context is formed. This highlights how these individual fragments of history and environment come together to form a snapshot of identity and place during a significant time in history.
